Squankum Methodist Church
The earliest record of a service being held in this area is in 1793, when the Rev. Benjamin Abbott, on his way to Long Branch is reported to have preached in Squankum. The church was organized on September 7, 1834 with the building being erected on a lot given for this purpose by Thomas and Dorothy Reynolds. It was called the Lower Squankum Free Meeting House although the records are missing for a number of years.
By 1913 the church had became a Methodist Episcopal Church in the New Jersey Conference, as a part of the West Farms Circuit
