• John Reynolds 1734-1827
  John was a Private in the Revolutionary War under General George Washington. He fought side by side in the Battle of Monmouth, with James Johnson the father of his daughter-in-law Sarah Johnson Reynolds.

John served with the 2nd N.J. Reg't, Capt. John Hollinsheads Company, Continental Line, commanded by Israel Shreve and Capt. Jeremiah Ballards Company, commanded by Elias Dayton. Enlisted May 8, 1778, for 9 months; discharged February 26, 1779.

John also served as a substitute for one William Taylor in 1777 or 1778. Received certificate # 646, amounting to 2:19:2, for the depreciation of his continental pay in the Monmouth Co., Militia.

• Dr. Samuel Adams 1745-1819
  Samuel received a commission as surgeon March 4, 1775, was assigned to duty in Boston with the 18th regiment, commanded by Edmund Phinney. Col. John Fellow's (Berkshire Co.) Regt.; enlsited June 28, 1775; service,1 mo.7 days; also Capt. King's Co., Fellow's Regt. . Samuel served as a surgeon during the Revolutionary War in the artillery department, under General Knox, and was frequently in the company of General Washington. He was with the army at Valley Forge and on the field to care for the wounded at the Battle of Monmouth.

• General Zebulon Montgomery Pike 1779–1813
  American explorer; b. Lamberton, N.J. As an army lieutenant he led an expedition (1806–7) to Spanish NEW MEXICO, discovering the Colorado peak that is named after him. Promoted to brigadier general during the WAR OF 1812, he was killed in the successful assault on York (now Toronto).

1793 Militia Census The militia listings were created due to the reorganization of the State Militia of New Jersey in 1793.  These records list almost every free, white able-bodied male between the ages of 18 & 45 in the state at that time.  This is very important because the 1790 census for the state of New Jersey was destroyed.
