The Methodist Church in Whitesville was built on land given by Judge White. He
gave one acre of land to the church at the crest of the hill near the main intersection in
Whitesville and on this property a church building was erected in 1860.The original
building was the one used by the church although it was used in a different location. In
1885, the church was moved back from the road about fifty feet to the place where it now
stands.
Before the turn of the century a parsonage was erected on the western boundary of the church property. This building was the parsonage which served the Pastor of the Whitesville Circuit which included Cassville and Pleasant Grove Churches.
In 1914 a Social Hall
was erected between the church building and the parsonage. The hall had an addition that
was used as the Education Building. Back in the opening decade of the present century
there were revivals across the Conference. From 1904-1909, the presiding elders report
almost yearly revivals. Over 1600 were converted in the Bridgeton District and 1300 in the
Brunswick District.
The Largest revivals and greatest numbers of conversions
were Bridgeton: 300;
Ocean City 150; Whitesville 125; Ocean Grove 115; and Mt. Holly, over 100.
