Marlpit Hall
Located at 137 Kings Highway, Middletown, this rare example of colonial architecture was erected in several stages. A one-room Dutch cottage was begun in 1685 by James Grover, Jr. and was greatly enlarged circa 1730-1750 by `Squrie John Taylor', a prominet merchant. The house remained in the Taylor family until aquired for the Monmouth Co. Historical Association in 1936. It is furnished to reflect ownership from 1685 through 1820, with five rooms providing the time line.
